Les Contes drolatiques — known as Droll Stories — are a collection of 30 ribald short stories by Honoré de Balzac. They were first published in Paris in 1832 and 1837. Of the intended 100 tales Balzac completed only 30.

Paul and Gaëtan chose 4, short stories set in the Middle Ages that criticize the period's mores, denouncing the hypocrisy of the church in a caricatured and gently erotic style.
